Terms of Use & Service Conditions

Effective Date: January 1, 2025 • Last Updated: 2026-10-31

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using OutdoorsCalc, including any of our interactive yard, garden, landscaping, concrete, paver, sod, fence, deck, or volume conversion calculators, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use and our Material Estimate Disclaimer. If you do not agree with any part of these terms, please discontinue use of the website immediately.

2. Informational & Planning Purpose Only

All calculators, worked examples, coverage tables, and installation tips published on OutdoorsCalc are provided free of charge for general educational and residential project planning purposes only. Output quantities—including cubic yards, cubic feet, short tons, pounds, retail bag counts, block counts, and lumber takeoffs—are mathematical estimates based on standard geometric equations and typical published bulk densities.

Nothing on OutdoorsCalc constitutes licensed civil, structural, or geotechnical engineering advice, nor does it replace local municipal building codes, HOA rules, or manufacturer installation specifications. Structural installations—including retaining walls exceeding 3.5 to 4 feet in height, elevated wood decks, load-bearing concrete slabs, and steep slope grading—often require building permits, frost-line footing verification, and site-specific engineering sign-off.

3. User Responsibility to Verify Quantities & Payload Limits

Before purchasing non-refundable bulk landscaping materials, scheduling ready-mix concrete trucks, cutting dimensional lumber, or loading heavy aggregates into a personal vehicle or trailer, you agree that you are solely responsible for:

  • Verifying your physical site measurements (length, width, diameter, and average depth) in the field with a calibrated tape measure or laser distance meter.
  • Confirming the exact bulk density, moisture weight, roll coverage, or bag yield with your local quarry, landscape supply yard, concrete plant, or retail store prior to placing an order.
  • Checking your vehicle’s Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), rear-axle payload capacity, and tire load ratings before hauling heavy materials such as wet topsoil, sod pallets, concrete bags, gravel, or sand.
  • Calling 811 (Call Before You Dig) at least 2 to 3 business days before excavating post holes, retaining wall trenches, or patio bases to locate underground utility lines.

4. Intellectual Property & Permitted Use

You may freely use OutdoorsCalc calculators for personal homeowner projects or commercial landscaping estimating, print takeoff sheets using our Print feature, and share calculation links via URL query parameters. You may not scrape, republish, frame, or systematically copy our original written guides, worked scenarios, or code compilation onto competing websites without prior written permission.

5. Disclaimer of Warranties & Limitation of Liability

OutdoorsCalc IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE US LAW, OutdoorsCalc AND ITS CONTRIBUTORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF MATERIAL OVER-ORDERS, MATERIAL SHORTAGES, DELIVERY FEES, VEHICLE OVERLOADING, OR CONSTRUCTION DEFECTS RESULTING FROM RELIANCE ON ANY CALCULATION OR GUIDE ON THIS SITE.

6. External Reference Sources & Modifications to Terms

Where our guides cite public agricultural extension bulletins, USDA soil documentation, or industry standards (such as ACI, ICPI, CMHA, NCMA, or AWC), those citations are provided for educational transparency and do not imply endorsement of OutdoorsCalc by those institutions. We reserve the right to update or modify these Terms of Use and our reference density tables at any time without prior notice; the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.

7. Governing Law & Contact

These Terms of Use are governed by the laws of the United States. Questions regarding these terms, copyright inquiries, or technical error reports may be directed to contact@outdoorscalc.org or reviewed on our Contact Page.
